What No One Tells You About Finding Your Voice in a City Like LA

When I first arrived in Los Angeles, I thought I knew who I was as a singer.

I had the training. I had the hustle. I had the “dream” so many people talk about — to make it, to be seen, to be heard.

But what I didn’t realize was that LA doesn’t just amplify your voice — it asks you to own it.

And if you’re not clear on what that voice really is? The noise will swallow you.

This City Can Inspire You — and Intimidate You

Everywhere you turn, there’s talent in LA. Vocalists with range for days, creatives who ooze originality, and people chasing the exact same vision you are.

But talent alone doesn’t open doors here.

In my early days coaching artists in this city, I worked with singers who were technically flawless — and yet they struggled to move people. I’ve seen raw beginners light up a room with one line because it came from somewhere real.

That was my wake-up call: finding your voice isn’t about getting everything “right.” It’s about getting real.

Your Voice Is More Than Your Sound

People come to LA thinking they need a certain look, a certain genre, or a certain story to succeed.

But here’s what I’ve learned — from coaching artists who’ve landed on stages like American Idol, The Voice, major tours, and even viral platforms:

The artists who rise are the ones who stop performing and start connecting.

Your voice isn’t just how you hit notes.
It’s how you tell the truth.
It’s how you feel grounded in a song you didn’t write.
It’s the energy you carry when no one’s clapping yet.

And finding that voice? It takes support, not just practice.

LA Will Challenge You (but that’s the point)

This city has a way of revealing your gaps and growing your gifts at the same time.

You’ll face imposter syndrome. You’ll wonder if you're “good enough.” You’ll compare yourself to people who’ve had different journeys than yours.

And still, you’ll grow faster here — if you’re willing to go inward as much as outward.

I’ve watched artists unlock not just new tones, but new truths. I’ve seen voices open up the moment someone feels safe enough to actually feel in their singing.

That’s the real work. That’s the art of coaching in LA. It’s part vocal training, part identity work, part healing.

If You’re Just Starting Out (Or Starting Over)

Maybe you’re moving to LA. Maybe you’ve lived here for years but feel stuck. Or maybe you’re sitting in a totally different city wondering if this is even possible.

Here’s what I want you to know:

You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. You just need to be willing to show up for your voice — as it is, not as it “should” be.

LA will meet you where you are. And so will the right coach.

FAQs:

  • Not at all. Many singers I work with are based across the U.S. and internationally. Online sessions give you access to this kind of support from anywhere — no traffic required.

  • Voice lessons focus on technique. “Finding your voice” is about uncovering your emotional connection, your unique tone, and your message — and then learning to express it without fear.

  • You’re not alone. Many artists go through this — especially in competitive cities. Working with a coach can help you reconnect with your creativity, your confidence, and your reason for singing in the first place.

  • Never. Some of the most powerful voices I’ve coached began exploring music in their 30s, 40s, or beyond. What matters most is your desire — not your timeline.

❤️ Final Word from Roxie

There’s no shortage of talent in this city. But what sets you apart isn’t how perfectly you sing — it’s how deeply your voice reflects you.

If you’re feeling the pull to uncover something more in your sound, your artistry, or your confidence… trust that.

Your voice has something to say. And our coaches are here to help you say it — fully, fearlessly, and in a way only you can.

Whenever you’re ready, I’ve got you. 💜
