Maintaining a consistent, daily practice routine is required for singers to experience worthwhile growth in any area. By enrolling in an IHMV program, you take 100% responsibility for your own development and success. IHMV does not guarantee any result.
Schedule a daily practice time for yourself. It is important, as with any field of study, to be consistent, so that your skill can grow and improve. The voice works exactly the same as an athlete training his body; one practice time a week will not make a difference. We strongly encourage you to practice as much as possible, which should be fun!
Where: Find a place where you can feel comfortable singing, whether it's your car, bedroom, basement, garage, or bathroom. Make sure that this is a place you can count on to be available!
When: Make your practice time consistent every day: same time, same place. Fight to avoid interruptions in your practice schedule. Find your best time of day. Practice at least once a day. Use your singing voice correctly, and often!
How: Always warm up your singing muscles before doing any serious vocal work. Run through your drills, exercises, and scales, before getting to your songs. Be gentle--especially in the morning!
Parents and guests may sit in for the first or last 5 minutes of each session. We require a 1:1 coaching environment with your child in order to gain the full attention of the child without the natural distraction and/or input of a parent.
Regularity in practice is important. Please support your child in maintaining regular, consistent practice at home. Parents must play an important role in guiding their children's musical training. Repetition is one of the key elements for success with students; the more they practice, the more confident they will feel. While the length of time is not so important for young singers, please support them to practice their assignments several times each day. Let your child select a regular time for practice to begin. With your help, good practicing habits will be easily established. As parents, you have the responsibility of showing an interest in your child's progress. Patience, praise, and enthusiasm as your child learns and progresses will make all the difference in the world.
