How To Book Live Gigs Consistently Pt 2/3

I literally walked into the venue, right up to the booking agent and asked for the gig! :)

Here’s Part 2/3 from my series on how to find, book and sell out your shows.

A few years back, I was paid to play multiple times a week at the historic Sportsman’s Lodge in Studio City, home to old-Hollywood royalty such Frank Sinatra, Clark Gable & Katherine Hepburn.

It started out as once a month and led to booking corporate and private gigs!

How did I do it? Start with believing you can, take action with confidence—no fear.

Whether you’re chatting in person, by phone or email, here’s what worked for me:

”Hello __________.

My name is _______. I am a musician and I love __________  [the location, the mission, food] at your venue and would LOVE the opportunity to perform there.  

I play __________ [solo, in a duo, trio, full band] and my style is __________  [pop covers, soul music, jazz, 90’s hip hop], similar to __________ , __________ , __________ . [Adele, Beatles, Freddy Mercury].

  • Do you have any open slots coming up? I’m ready to play or fill in where needed.

  • Who would I need to speak to arrange this?

  • When is the best time to stop by for a brief chat? 

  • Do you have their direct phone number or email address? I would love to send a live clip to be considered.” 

Thank you so much for your help!”


Meeting in-person is by far your best bet—getting on a call is your next.
If you absolutely cannot arrange this, send them an email that includes the above paragraph and links to your website/social media pages.

Then follow up every 1-2 weeks until you arrive at a yes or no! 

After you get in contact with the booking agent, make sure to ask all the logistical questions such as how long your set will be, payment and what music equipment is provided. 

It’s that simple! Don’t complicate it.

Ultimately getting gigs comes down to your willingness to be visible, sell yourself confidently, and be organized and committed to following up.
